Holiday Rituals

What are your favorite holiday rituals?

I’ve spent years being “the Grinch,” denying and dreading Christmas. Long story short, I’ve finally realized the key to happy holidays for me, are establishing and keeping holiday rituals.

They don’t have to be big or complex or involve a lot of people—although they certainly can. My coworker was telling me about the Christmases of her childhood. They were so festive, so full of family revelry, I can imagine it would have been impossible to ever reproduce once her parents divorced and the shape of her family shifted.

I imagine holidays have changed for you as well, over your lifetime. So how do you celebrate now? What shifts have you made to make it your own? What is the essence of what makes the holiday feel festive and joyous to you?

Here are a few simple holiday rituals I’ve come to love:

I love to sing Christmas carols. I love candlelight. I love being read-aloud-to on Christmas Eve. I love receiving Christmas cards–I frame a doorway with them so I can walk by and enjoy them often. These are just a few examples, holiday rituals that have come to mean joy and delight for me. How about you? What are your favorite holiday rituals?

Coach’s Challenge: Chime in to the conversation! Leave a comment, share your treasured holiday rituals with the rest of us. Can’t wait to hear from YOU!

Please receive my wishes for the happiest of Christmases. I am so thankful for your presence in my world!
