Tell me… How do you let your soul sing during the holiday season?
I am a “Recovering Grinch.”
One of the most helpful ingredients to that recovery has been music. I don’t do much decorating for the holidays, nor have I retained many old holiday rituals. But I do play holiday music—and it lets my soul sing.
Do you have a “shadowed” or “heavy” holiday history? What has helped you change? What’s helped you to consciously choose something different?
For me, it’s been effective to let go of the old holiday “norms,” and to only refill that space with what really feels good to me. That isn’t to say holidays don’t prompt some sadness or some yearning, but it has lightened the season. I no longer dread this time of year as I once did.
So how do you let your soul sing? Look to the simple pleasures. It might be lights. It might be some random (or planned) act of generosity. It might be returning to a favorite book, or like me, a selection of heart-lifting music.
When I reach inside, I find the real core of this season of miracles is love and gratitude. It’s the connection with friends and family (my chosen family as much as the one I was born into). It’s nestling into the darkness, lifting requirements, soaking in the pleasure of spending time in ways and with people who let my soul sing.
Wishing you the perfect celebration of love, gratitude, and miracles—let your soul sing!
Love,
Lindy
