I’m really interested in the connection between success and authenticity. Why? Because the connection has eluded me up until recently, and I want to be certain others aren’t as misguided as I was.
Success always seemed to me to be something that had to be achieved by scaling the architecture of societal dictates. In other words, by doing what other people said to do. I used to believe success required us to do whatever was necessary to fit in to society, to our job, our peers, our family, etc. Now I believe that success actually stems from our ability to be who we truly are, and to express our inner brilliance.
What changed my mind? I tried for decades, (too many of them), to “fit in,” to make myself into a square peg so I could easily fit in to the square hole. At the least, it made me grumpy, dry, and boring. At the worst, it broke my heart and spirit and nearly made me give up the ghost. It never occurred to me that if I insisted on being the real me, with all my unique assets and liabilities, the Universe would support me by opening paths and presenting opportunities so that I could do what I loved, serve the world, and thrive, all at the same time.
