The Hundred-Foot Journey

The Hundred-Foot Journey

I just saw a film that will move you to feel the power of how being able to receive makes all the difference.

Last night we watched the film The Hundred-Foot Journey starring Helen Mirren and other up and coming actors, directed by Lasse Hallström, produced by big-wigs Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey as well as the project instigator, Julia Blake.

It’s touted in the special features as being a modern-day fable about racism and the ability individuals hold to reach across the chasm and unite. No question that’s a powerful part of its theme. But I found equally powerful the themes of yearning, ambition and love. I think it was the delicate edge of the latter two—the discovering how one could have both, when at first it seems an either-or equation that had my eyes filling with tears again and again.

The film is gorgeous and extremely sensual in its focus on food. It reminded me of Seattle author Erica Bauermeister’s novels The School of Essential Ingredients, and The Lost Art of Mixing. Erica’s writing astounds me in the way food is a character all unto itself, a force really, for deep healing of individuals, relationships, memories, hearts, and souls.

When you see The Hundred-Foot Journey, watch the way Hassan is with food. His features soften. He surrenders fully to receive all the ingredients offer in taste, texture, color, shape, and aroma. It borders on a religious experience, even an erotic one, in a sacred sense. And its intimacy is astounding.

This is the power of receiving. It’s the power of surrender, the deep power of the feminine (not exclusive to the female gender!) It’s the place where the world’s abundance finally reaches us, nourishes us.

Last week’s article was long-winded as I tried to express this point about my remote Reiki program. It’s an energetic practice of receiving. As we grow more and more able to open, to surrender and to receive, the abundance that always surrounds us finally rushes in.

Coach’s Challenge: If you want to train your energetic system to be more deeply receptive, consider signing up for my 2015 “Support from Lindy Reiki Program” today. I’m only taking those willing to commit for the full year, so admission will close at the end of January until next year.

I’ve added an incentive bonus in the form of the payment plan: when you choose monthly payments, you’ll only pay 10 times instead of 12 – you’ll get November and December free. This means you receive almost the same incredible value as those willing to pay in full up front.

P.S. On a personal note: I burst into tears when the end credits rolled and I learned the director was Lasse Hallström. In my visioning mind, I chose him some time ago as my director of choice for when my book The Curse of the Neverland is made into a film. He directed Chocolat, Cider House Rules, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and many others. I love the way he takes the human story and gives it mythical power. And here he was, working with Helen Mirren, my choice to play Belle, formerly Tinker Bell. It must be a sign! :)
