What About Your Integrity?

What About Your Integrity?

I’m giving a free talk Thursday, May 30, 6:30-7:30 pm in the meeting room at the Sequim Branch Library, entitled “Getting Unstuck Using the Map in Your Hands. Please come if you can!

My Life Purpose is to be a powerful advocate for integrity and creativity. While I’ve talked a lot about creativity lately, I haven’t said much about integrity.

One of the definitions of integrity, is wholeness, as in “the integrity of a ship’s hull.” What if your ability to act with integrity is related to how whole you are?

It makes sense to me that you can only act on your values if you’re connected to them. We can be cut off from our deep values by any kind of trauma, be it physical or emotional.

It doesn’t have to be hugely traumatic to have had an impact. When we are treated as anything less than the magnificent beings we are, it’s like a hammer tapping away at a glass pane. Maybe only a hairline crack appears, or maybe we shatter. Healing is absolutely essential in order to fully embrace your Life Purpose: physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental healing.

Sit down and rate each of these life areas on a scale of 1 to 10 – 1 is low, 10 high.

  • Physically, are you thriving, strong and healthy? Are you eating right? Sleeping enough? Exercising enough to stay fit and strong? Drinking enough water? How about your breath? Do you take in air with ease, and let it all the way out before breathing again?
  • Emotionally, do you easily experience the gamut of emotions without getting hung up, shutting down, or exploding? Are your relationships deeply fulfilling? Does love flow through your life in abundance? Do you connect to a deep sense of joy and gratitude on a daily basis?
  • Spiritually, do you have easy, daily access to the Divine? Are you allowing time and space to listen, for inspiration to flow in?
  • Mentally, are you flexible, positive, curious, and challenged to find creative solutions? Do you learn new things regularly?
  • Financially, are you earning the money you need to thrive, and are you able to give to others? Are you providing value in the world, and charging appropriately? Do you love your work?
  • Expressively, do you have an arena of creative expression? And do you engage in it with the same discipline that you—say, work? Do you take time for fun?

If you find one or more of those areas is a 6 or below, I encourage you to get help.  It isn’t that you aren’t managing fine on your own, it’s that you deserve the support to up-level.

Especially if your Purpose is to be a healer of any kind, or if you have the “mark of the gifted healer” in your hands, the admonition “healer, heal thyself” is the first order of business. Remember, a healer is anyone whose role it is to invite others to become more whole. Also, if your Life Lesson involves trust issues, or if intimacy issues plague you, your healing journey is key to turning your Life Lesson to its Master Path.

Coach’s Challenge: I struggle with a recurring baseline of depression. I’ve learned that when it pops up it isn’t about who I am, or about the past. It’s a reminder to engage my creativity. How about you? What is your greatest recurring struggle? What is that struggle prompting you to do differently? Just this week, follow that wisdom.  Let me know how it goes.
