I’ll make this short and sweet—and top it with wishes for happy holidays from me to you…
I’ve got a film for you: Hector and the Search for Happiness starring Simon Pegg and Rosamunde Pike.
I’m always talking about happiness, in fact sometimes I even call myself a “happiness coach.” It’s a subject that’s far from simple, so when I saw this film, I was doubtful, but curious to see what content a title like that holds.
Caution: it’s a slow starter, and you may need to warm up to its humor. But hang in there, it’s worth it. Once Hector sets off on his search for happiness, his discoveries are so painfully personal yet so very universal, you can’t help but want to see it through. And the ending is wonderful, as Hector discovers yet another layer of the paradox of happiness.
The best line in the movie comes through Christopher Plummer, in a bit part as a professor toward the film’s finish. I won’t be a spoiler and quote it, but trust me, it’s a keeper, and lives up to my title: happiness revealed.
Coach’s Challenge: Watch the movie, and let me know which definition of happiness resonates most with you!
