How I Got My Name

How I Got My Name

Tomb Raider, and how I got my name.

Some of you know the name I go by today is not the name I was given at birth. Marriage isn’t responsible for the changes.

There’s a unique story to how I got my name.

It happened after the first Indiana Jones movie came out. I was completely taken with Indy as a hero. I liked that he was an “ordinary guy.” His heroism wasn’t due to him being special, but rather his gritty willingness to face all the obstacles that came his way.

I thought, I want to be an actor playing roles like Indy. In honor of that thought, I started calling myself “Lindy.” I’m delighted to have gotten to name myself for the kind of hero I wanted to be. Thinking positive, right?

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones

This past week I saw Alicia Vikander playing my dreamed of role in the film Tomb Raider.”

To be 100% transparent, I knew nothing of the film’s video game roots, nor of previous film incarnations. This 2018 film is my first exposure to Tomb Raider.

Action packed, beginning to end.

It’s a little high octane compared to my usual choices but I liked it. What I like best is the kick-butt girl/woman hero: Lara Croft, played by Alicia Vikander.

There are more examples of female action heroes these days than there used to be, but it’s still not the norm to find an actress turning out action sequences vying with the best of Matt Damon or Sylvester Stallone.

Speaking of Stallone, the role of Lara Croft is not just an “Indy” sort of “regular person in extraordinary circumstances” role. No. The role has just as much Rocky Balboa in it as Indiana Jones. This is a serious female hero, executing serious action sequences.

It looked like a BLAST!!!!

I could see how hard Ms. Vikander must have trained to build her shoulder muscles like that. Not sure I could perform at that level these days… and OK … nobody wants to watch a 50-some year-old female in an action role! But hey, dreaming is free

Coach’s Challenge:

I don’t have a challenge for you today. I just thought I’d share this little piece of insight into my heroes, my dreams, and the origin of my name. Pick up the film for high-octane entertainment—expect some violence.
