I Know What You Are! You are a Wayfinder.
The book I currently can’t put down and keep talking to everyone I meet about, is Finding Your Way in a Wild New World: Reclaim Your True Nature to Create the Life You Want, by Martha Beck.
I’ve had breakthroughs every few pages with this book. She keeps articulating things that have been brewing in me, in a place deeper than words. If you let me, I would talk your ear off about it. But your time is precious – so I’m just going to show you who you are.
Martha Beck talks about the people she keeps attracting, how she started calling them “The Team.” They had a whole list of common attributes. One need not have all of them to qualify. Here are a handful:
- High levels of empathy
- An urgent desire to lessen or prevent suffering for humans, animals, or even plants
- Loneliness stemming from a sense of being different
- High creativity: a passion for music, poetry, performance, or visual arts
- Difficult early life, including trauma of various sorts
- Resistance to orthodox religiosity; paradoxically combined with a deep yearning for a spiritual sense of purpose.
Do you recognize yourself?
Later, an anthropologist told her: “You know, in a pre-modern culture, the people you are describing would have been recognized as the tribe’s healers – druids, medicine people, shamans, whatever. You did realize that, didn’t you?”
Beck also chooses another name – likening us to people who guided boats to land across the ocean without navigational tools. These were the “Wayfinders.”
It’s no wonder all of you have so many intuitive gift markings in your hands! So you see? I know what you are!
Welcome to the Wayfinders Team, guys!

Coach’s Challenge: This week, be aware that you are called to be a part of this Wayfinder Team; here to give healing to humans, plants, animals, and the earth. What can you do TODAY to act on your calling? Talk to your plants. Adopt a pet. Be kind to someone. Giving your attention backed by your generous heart is healing in and of itself. Let me know how it feels when you find you fit this description. I felt relief, and excitement.
Leave me a comment about it!
