Last week I introduced Dan Fowler’s concept of the “Gravity Well,” presented at Imagination IQ. Recognizing that we never manifest what we want, rather we always manifest who we are, Dan works with people to ground themselves fully in their desired vision, and to fill their energy field with the positive emotion of it already being accomplished. Thus the gravity well draws things in, rather than you desperately chasing after them. I work on a parallel track for manifesting – I call it “green magic,” (because it pleases me.)
As I said last week, imagination plays a key role in creating positive emotion about something not yet here. Today I’ll add this mandate: live today like it’s your last. By doing so, you’ll activate a level of sensory awareness and deep appreciation (gratitude) – both essential components in building your personal green magic; your magnetic personal energy field.
If you are given a period of time left to live, you must choose how to spend it. With just a day left, it isn’t so much a question of what you do with the day, as how fully you enjoy it, how much pleasure you can take from it. I don’t think it’s humanly possible to do this every day, unless you are already operating at the level of enlightenment. I recommend doing it for just one day for starters. I tried it today, and here are my tips to live today like it’s your last:
- Focus on your 5 senses, and ramp them up.
- Really savor the taste of your food. Is it salty, sweet, sour, bitter, or savory? Which of these flavors do you especially love, and want to remember for always?
- Notice the texture of each thing you handle. Soft sheets, dirty shoes, smooth upholstery, the distinctive feel of running water. Which is especially pleasing to you? If you had to pick a favorite texture, what would it be?
- If you can see, your vision occupies a huge amount of your daily sensory input. Notice colors, shapes, light, shadow, and how the sight of something beautiful brings a rush of pleasure.
- Sound is also a constant for those of us living in a modern-day civilization. Focus in on the details – the pitch, the volume. Is it tuneful in its way? Does it bring you a feeling of harmony, or unrest? Just notice, don’t judge. Notice and find small ways to appreciate it more than usual.
- Your sense of smell is woven in with your sense of taste, so food is key, but aromas are ubiquitous. If you were relying on your sense of smell to orient you through your day, what would be your cues? Which aromas make you take a deep whiff followed by a satisfied sigh?
- Notice your rituals and take pleasure from them. Your daily routines and habits are, in part, a ritual. Notice the way you do the smallest things – like how you go about brushing your teeth. Pay attention to the order and choice of your pre-work time in the morning. Do you meditate? Journal? Take time with your spouse, or pets? Enjoy sleeping until the last moment and fly into the shower and out the door? This isn’t about what is good, bad, right or wrong. It’s appreciating the deep comfort and meaning created by years of repeating a thing; the choices you make each day and how sweet they are.
- Breathe in the essence of your relationships. The not-quite acquaintances you greet. The folks you know by sight but not by name, the ones that make you smile, and the ones that make you shudder. Your dearest intimates and friends. Feel the richness, the broad weave and heft these relationships give the fabric of your life.
If you can do just these 3 things, you’re rockin’ it. When you enter fully into an awareness and appreciation of each moment, joy can’t help but pour in. This is an inestimably powerful ingredient in activating your powerful personal energetic field.
As I said, I think this kind of focus and awareness is too hard to do all the time, so please don’t criticize yourself for how you don’t do it, rather applaud yourself for the moments you do.
Coach’s Challenge: Pick a day this week, and attempt the above. Live today like it’s your last. There’s no faster way to a life you love than to love the life you have. Come back and let us know how it goes: leave a comment to share your journey!
