The Value of the Pause

The Value of the Pause

Winter Solstice is this Sunday, the 21st. In honor of the occasion, I want to pass on a poem a friend shared with me. It speaks to me about the value of the pause – and for those of us trained to do, do, do, it’s a fine reminder.

Winter Solstice: A Prayer for Pause

We need a winter in our lives.

A time of rest, a time to stand still.

A time to reacquaint ourselves

with the faith in which we live and breathe.

It is only then that we can draw strength

from the one in whom we are rooted,

take time to grow and rise through the darkness

into the warm glow of your springtime,

to blossom and flourish,

bring colour and vitality into this world,

your garden.

Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter lies a miracle …

a seed waiting to sprout,

a bulb opening to the light,

a bud straining to unfurl.

And the anticipation nurtures our dream.  —Barbara Winkler

The key that has revealed itself to me this holiday season is finding more ease in my heart when I allow more ease in my schedule.

Wishing all of you deep ease in your heart as we weave the darkness with the light, weaving our souls whole.

Coach’s Challenge: Attend to the pauses in your life this week– see if you can double your usual amount! Each time you pause, reach for the deep place within, and allow it to be. Name what you are feeling, acknowledge it, allow it. Recognize your worth has NOTHING to do with what you do, and EVERYTHING to do with who you are.
