Finding Your Balance

Your life is filled to the brim with pursuits, relationships, concerns, struggles… what are the keys to finding your balance?

I’ve just returned from a scrumptious retreat outside of San Diego, at a place called Questhaven (pictured above)—600 acres of natural preserve, used only for spiritual pursuit in the past 80 years—truly sacred-feeling ground.

I attended a workshop presented by a wise man from the high Andes in Peru, all about the magic of “S’alka!” S’alka is our untamed energy—our “undomesticated” selves. It flows from the earth, from the cosmos, from within and from Nature all around us. To join it, to “choose S’alka,” we must drop out of our heads, where man has lived for the past 2,000 years, and into our hearts.

It was absolutely nourishing for me to be at this workshop, along with 40 other seeker-souls, experiencing the wonder life offers.

The wonder is always there. The essential first step is finding your balance so you can choose wonder and delight instead of worries and drama.

So today I thought I would share just one on the many thoughts and tools that Don Americo Yabar and his son Gayle, gave us—an extremely effective tool for finding your balance:

Recipe for draining off the negative and finding your way back into balance:

Ever had a body treatment at a spa? There are “mud” treatments available to draw off toxins. Well this works just as well, and it’s free!

Spend at least 15 minutes in direct contact with the earth. Walking barefoot will do—even better is to lie facedown on the ground, connecting your belly button to Mother Earth. It works with the same “magical” speed that an Epsom salts bath does, draining off toxic energies, anxieties, and snarled emotions. In addition, it aligns your polarities with the Earth’s.

Relax while you are doing it. Napping is good, worrying is not.

For those of us in the northern climes, it’s getting chilly for lying on the ground, beach or otherwise. You can use a blanket and warm clothes. Just choose natural fabrics rather than synthetics.

Coach’s Challenge: Try it this week! 15 minutes in direct contact with the earth (only hands in the dirt is not quite as good). It’s a powerful tool for finding your balance, and transforming your state of being. Let me know how it goes!
