Replenish Your Energetic Self

Last week I wrote about your powerful presence, and asked where in your life you are bringing yours to bear. It’s easy to live in a semi-drained state when you are overly busy taking care of others (whether at home or work).

I talked about the experience of being around “energy vampires,” those who make you tired because they are siphoning off your energy, whether by creating conflict and chaos, or simply sucking up your sympathy while they complain.

I promised to talk about correct ways to replenish your energetic self this week. Here are 5 great ways to do it:

  1. Spend time in Nature. Somewhere calm, beautiful, where you feel yourself fade into insignificance. That feeling of fading is when you let go of your “small self” and allow your energy to merge with the “all that is” around you.
  1. Put yourself in the amazing space between inspiration and expression. Allow your self to be inspired, and let that inspiration provoke some kind of self-expression. It can be anything: solving a problem, digging a hole, writing, cooking, even cleaning can be done from this space. ** The River Thrive Program works on this in depth, a super fun, easy, DIY program.
  1. Take a nap. An under-valued, under-utilized habit that is worth its weight in gold. Often seen as “wasted time,” in fact it allows you to come back with far more focus and energy, and efficiency to whatever the task at hand.
  1. Spend some quality time with friends. This time cannot be spent gossiping, complaining, whining or in any way spreading negativity. But sharing, listening, caring, inquiring, inspiring… it will feed your heart and soul. Women need this kind of time with other women to produce “oxytocin,” the hormone most closely associated with cherishing and being cherished.
  1. Dance. Dancing, moving freely and authentically to music, frees your feelings, brings you back into your body, releases tension, increases relaxation, and just plain makes you happy. I have a friend who helped a male friend to markedly improve his marriage when she told him to take his wife out dancing. It directly impacts your sex life. Not kidding! Few aphrodisiacs work better than dancing.
